Captain "Sun" (also known in Thai as Sayan) was born in Ratchaburi, Thailand, not far from Bangkok. Sun spent 10 years of his early life as a novice monk. During that time he embarked on a pilgrimage to Burma, he walked with his Theravada Buddhist teachers and a fellow novice for over 4 years. The whole group contracted malaria and they returned by foot back to Thailand. At 21 years of age Sun left the monastic life style and trained as a professional chef. He worked for 7 years at the famous Rainforest Resort near Phisanulok, in 1992 he moved to Ko Lanta in southern Thailand and worked on the Island of Ko Kom at the Ko Kom Resort, with his sister Pe Latt. Sun has been living and working in the Ko Lanta/Krabi area for close to twenty years. His dream for many years was to captain his own Long tail boat and learn the intricate nature of the sea. In 1999, he fulfilled that dream and purchased his first long tail boat. Today Sun is the proud owner of his third boat, each one a little bigger than the last. During low season, Captain Sun can be found with the other locals, fishing with traditional nets and hand lines. He sells his catch within the local community. Captain Sun and his wife Susanna have operated Sun Fishing and Island Tours for over 6 years from their seafront pole house in Old Town, Ko Lanta. "Because
